Friends of St Thomas More (FOSTM) relaunch and request for help

The Friends of St Thomas More (FOSTM) has been working quietly in the background during the last few years. COVID and lockdowns hit all charities. The FOSTM has been no different. In September we hope to relaunch the charity and invite as many of our current and new parents to join in and support your school.

There are a few simple ways you can do this:

Support for Kinship Carers

Support for kinship carers

The quote “It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that conveys the idea that a child's upbringing is the responsibility of many people in the community, not just their parents.

Often families and friends take on the responsibility of raising a child that is not their own for many different reasons.

It is important that if this happens that you are able to gain the support you deserve.

Kinship care refers to situations where children are living with relatives or friends who are not their birth parents. We understand that these arrangements can vary, and it is important for us to identify these cases so that we can provide any additional support or resources that may be available.

If your child is in a kinship care arrangement, we kindly ask that you inform us as soon as possible. This information will be treated confidentially and will be used solely for the purpose of providing appropriate support to your child and family.

To let us know about a kinship care arrangement or if you have any questions, please contact Mrs Lindsay on 01702 606712 or via email at alindsay@st-thomasmore.southend.sch.uk. Alternatively, you can visit the school office to speak with Mrs Lindsay directly.

There is a charity which directly supports kinship carers Kinship: The Kinship care charity which offers lots of information, advice and a support network that is so important for family and friends who step up to help raise a child.

There are some online workshops that are organised by the local authority that you can sign up to which can help you
